Kinship Care

I recently secured and led a debate in the House of Commons on ID for Kinship Carers. We secured an agreement from the Minister to meet with us, and our local charity Kinship Carers UK, to discuss it. But to my greater surprise, my first request that I made – to make Kinship care the default option for local authorities when a child needs to be looked after – was accepted by the Minister there and then in the chamber! He promised to put it into law straight away.

I’m looking forward to our meeting on ID cards, but to have already secured a shift in policy that puts Kinship care at the front of our system is a great win, and a great example of a Labour Government leading on its values!
